BIO: "Myrtle" – Myrtle grew up on a farm in Southern WI. She worked as a labor & delivery nurse for 45+ years from the 1940s through the 1980s. She advocated tirelessly for patients and families amongst physicians and worked full time even when it was not popular culturally or among peers. She was sole “bread winner” for her six children and spouse. Scholarship candidates aligned with Myrtle are gravitating towards future or current healthcare or education careers. Nutrition, self-control, self-reliance, and physical activity are key areas of interest and impact. Ideal candidate is compassionate, assertive, and has a high logical-reasoning (“book smart”) IQ.
BIO: "MJ" – Mary Jean (MJ) grew up sharing one banana with her five siblings during the Depression era in Madison WI. She persevered through profound personal loss and health issues in her 20s and experienced significant medical issues later in life resulting in near total disability for her last 10 years. Despite her circumstances, MJ was an extremely positive and energetic presence. She was gifted at bringing people together: neighbors, volunteers and friends for good food and good conversation creating a culture of positive shared experiences. Scholarship candidates aligned with Mary Jean are exceptionally tenacious and interested in community programs and/or volunteerism. Ideal candidate is gregarious, has a high interpersonal (“common sense”) IQ, excels at bringing others together, and is inclusive surrounding diversity at home, neighborhood, school, or workplace.
